September 8th marks International Literacy Day and I’d like to acknowledge one girl who has overcome adversity to fight for education and literacy in her home country of Pakistan. Her name is Malala Yousafzai and when she stood up to the Taliban over her right to an education, she was shot in the head at point-blank range on the way home from school. She is a survivor. She is the youngest nominee for a Nobel Peace Prize. She is a brave global ambassador for gender equality in education. Shouldn’t every girl have the right to learn to read?
Malala’s memoir is a fitting book to recognise International Literacy Day.
