33 Postcards, starring Guy Pearce, is the first co-production between China and NSW, Australia. Based on a true story, it follows the relationship between a man in Sydney and his sponsor girl in a Chinese orphanage. When she visits Australia with her orphanage on a choir tour, the girl discovers that her sponsor’s life has been fabricated in the postcards he sent her over the years; he is in fact incarcerated for manslaughter.
It is a tale of trust, dishonesty, goodwill, and friendship, which is both disturbing and uplifting. Download a copy, like I did, and prepare to be moved.
