Honesty is the Best Policy

One of my children was mucking around during her recent swimming lesson. Despite my pleas for her to stop wasting the coach’s time and to stop disrupting the other students, she continued to bob up and down in the water when she was meant to be doing breaststroke, and slap her kick board on the surface to see how many waves she could create.

After class, I said to her, “I’m very disappointed in your behaviour today. Next week, do you think you can be more respectful to the teacher and do as you’re asked?”

“I don’t think I can,” she said.

I wanted to pull my hair out. Instead, I consoled myself that, at least she was honest.
